The difference between a good game and a great game.

In a previous post I asked were older games better? To more surprise many thought yes they are but why? Well after thinking about I realised you can judge a game in 5 different catagories.

  1. Game play: How it plays and is it quick to learn,
  2. Playability: How fun is it actually to play and would you want to finish it,
  3. Replayability: not only any extras for finishing it but do you want to play from scratch again,
  4. Story
  5. Graphics
Lets look at game play I mean how easy is it to pick up and how difficult is to play, I for one am not agiannst difficult game Demon's souls and Dark soul are two of my favourite games.
But not all games should be difficult like that, such as racing games as they can be picked up and played anytime and you don't want to suddenly get rinsed everytime you have five minutes to spare but they shouldn't be so easy that lapping second place is regular occurrence. They needs to be an in between like mario kart double dash 50cc easy as pie 100 cc challenging enough and 150 F**K YOU NINTENDO!
Playabilty is it fun and is something you want to finish there is nothing worse than a game that is overhyped and you end up think well this is boring why is just wave after wave of villian (CoD looking at you). but decent AI that challenges and is responsive enough to feel real, now some wave games are fun but not in a military shooter. Again you don't want zombies strategizing, that is basically all for that part. Replayability now I'm not a competionist, like to finish the game and that's it unless it's a zelda game. So a game that I want to play again and again and finish it every time some times with extras or just because I fancied to restart from scratch. Story and Graphics are the least important a fun story and pretty graphics if the gameplay is awful or it is just a chore to play.
prime example of awful game that actually looks ok
Sim city, graphics not all that great and no story but will keep you entertained for hours. Agatha christies murder by numbers the fact this on is based on a Agatha christie book says everything about the story but it is a boring chore to play. This is why older games seem to be better the gameplay was better and they had to focus on that without having shiny graphics to hide obvious flaws. Story was usually someone saves someone or something, and that works playing the hero not someone who dies during the game seriously what is up with CoD watching an NPC die (final fantasy players know who I'm talking about),yeah that hits hard but you the player for no obvious reason what the hell!! So my conlusion on why older games are better will come up soon. Join me on my channel for lets play videos Jolly gamer channel Keep on gaming.
